Interview with Kamal Gulati, Founder of GK Studio: Making Affordable Luxury a Reality in Beauty
Can you tell us about yourself and your journey before GK Studio?
I never worked under anyone. I started my entrepreneurial journey in real estate with my father’s business, where there was no structured team. Later, I built Makeoverz, a beauty-tech marketplace that grew but eventually had to shut down due to demonetisation and Covid. From a team of 8, I was left with nothing. But instead of quitting, I carried forward those learnings to build GK Studio.

What inspired you to start GK Studio?
I strongly believe that beauty services shouldn’t be a luxury only for the elite. The idea behind GK Studio was simple: “Luxury you can afford.” I wanted to create a space where women could access premium services like keratin, smoothening, nanoplastia, or waxing at transparent, honest prices.
How is GK Studio different from other salons?
We focus on three key values:
1. Transparency in Pricing – We introduced one of the first length-based service charts in India, so clients know exactly what they’re paying for.
2. Affordability with Quality – Offers like Keratin at Rs. 799, Smoothening at Rs. 999, and Rica Waxing (Full Arms + Full Legs + Underarms) at just Rs. 299 made premium services accessible.
3. Client Education & Trust – From I-cards after every application, to mirror tags showing which step of the service is happening, we ensure complete clarity.
We also launched KG Products (Keratin, Nanoplastia, Botox, shampoos, masks, and serums) for better quality control.
How many branches do you currently operate?
We operate four spacious branches, each covering at least 3,000 sq. ft.: – Sector 46, Gurgaon – Sector 83, Gurgaon – Chhatarpur, South Delhi – New Colony (Sector 7, Gurgaon) – our biggest and most special branch Sector 7 holds a deep emotional value for me since I grew up there. Opening a branch there wasn’t just business, it was a way of giving back to my roots.
Can you tell us about your team culture?
Today, we are a team of 56 professionals having hairstylists, beauticians, nail artists, and support staff. Many of them are the primary breadwinners of their families, and seeing them support their homes and grow in confidence feels like a big achievement for me personally.
What milestones are you most proud of?
- Launching KG Products, our in-house professional line.
- Making affordable luxury a reality with offers like Keratin at Rs. 799.
- Building women-only safe spaces where clients feel comfortable and confident.
What’s next for GK Studio?
The goal is simple:
- To scale our team to 500+ professionals.
- Expand GK Studio’s reach across India and eventually globally.
- Continue empowering people through employment, skills, and confidence.
What is your personal mantra for success?
I believe in one line: “The fire to make it big, no matter what.” No matter how many times you fail, if you have the resilience to stand up again, success will eventually find you.
