Meet Rebecca Lake and get some Blogging Tips

I started Bloggers Interviews series in the last week of June 2019, and we have six bloggers in this series till this middle of July 2019. Great!!! Really Great! The purpose of this series is to help beginner bloggers to get some important blogging tips from expert/experienced bloggers around the world.

Our today’s guest is Rebecca, woman behind the blog Boss Single Mama. Lets meet her and get some important blogging tips.

Can you tell our readers about yourself and your blog?

My name is Rebecca and I’m a full-time freelance writer as well as a homeschooling single mom of two twins. My blog, Boss Single Mama, is where I write about freelancing, making money online, budgeting and productivity. 

Describe how did you first get into blogging?

I first started my blog in March 2018 on a whim. I’d been thinking about it for a long time and while I’m very happy with the freelance writing business I’ve built, I wanted to try something different. So I jumped in and purchased hosting but I didn’t have much of a plan for how to run a blog. Two months in, I got frustrated and quit. But the idea of having a blog about making money online and saving money wouldn’t go away so I relaunched it on April 1, 2019, and I’ve been blogging away ever since. 

How do you motivate yourself to keep the blog up and running?

I just focus on doing at least one thing every day to improve or grow my blog. When I quit the first time, it was because I was expecting overnight success and I didn’t realize that I was just setting myself up for disappointment. Now, I have realistic goals that I’m working toward and doing one thing each day, even if it’s something small. Even little things can add up to a big step forward over time. I’ve learned to be happy with slow and steady progress. It’s also been a good strategy for helping me avoid blogging burnout.

What do you think is the best strategy that worked well for you to get more traffic to your blog?

I spend a lot of time in Facebook groups for bloggers, which has been great for sending some traffic to my blog but mostly, it’s helped me make some solid connections with other bloggers. For me, my biggest traffic driver is Pinterest. I’m still learning how to use it fully to my advantage but I’m steadily improving every day. A lot of that has been experimenting with different pin designs and headlines and writing content that people want to read.

In the future where do you hope your blog will take you?

My ultimate goal is to generate enough income from blogging to replace my freelance writing income. Freelancing has been great to me over the years but I feel blogging offers more opportunity to connect with people and help solve their problems on a more personal level. I would like to become known in my niche as a blogger you can always count on for reliable, actionable tips and advice. 

Would you encourage other people to make their blog?

Sure! I waited a long time to start a blog and looking back, I wish I’d started much sooner. If you want to start a blog, then do it. Don’t let fear or self-doubt keep you from at least trying. Even if it turns out to be a bust, you’ll know that you gave it your best shot. 

A lot of people think that blogging is an easy way to make money online. Do you have some tips for those people who are interested in making money from the blog?

I was one of those people who thought blogging could be an easy way to make money. And oh, how wrong I was! But that’s okay because I do know that it’s possible if you have the right plan and strategy. So for anyone interested in making money blogging I would say don’t expect instant results and be willing to put in the time. Blogging as a money-making business is a long game and you have to be willing to commit and stick with it, even when it’s not making a dime.

What do you think about my blog TechnoVans.com? What do you like about it and what improvements you will suggest?

I think it’s a great resource for techies and anyone who’s looking for blogging tips and advice. The interviews you’re doing with other bloggers have been really interesting as well–it’s always fun to have a peek inside how other bloggers think and approach their blogs. If you wanted to include some pinnable images for your posts, that’s always good if you’re looking for traffic from Pinterest. But overall, I like the magazine-style vibe you’ve got going on. 

What are the TOP THREE blogging tips you will share with our readers?

1. Have a plan from day one. Don’t just jump in blindly. Work out step by step what you’re going to do to start your blog, grow your blog traffic, connect with your readers, promote your content. Set realistic goals for growth and make them as measurable as possible so you can track your progress from month to month. 

2. Be yourself. One of the worst mistakes you can make as a new blogger is trying to copy what someone else has done. That never works. Be yourself on your blog and whatever you do, don’t fall into the trap of comparing your blogging journey to anyone else’s.

3. Give it time. Seriously. About three months in, you’ll want to quit. It happened to me the first time and I let the urge to quit beat me. Just last month I got the itch to quit again but I pushed past it. If you’re frustrated and want to give up on your blog, take a hard look at what’s not working. Then come up with a strategy for adapting and changing so you can get to where you want to be with it.
