Blogger Interview - Sharon Green

Hi Sharon, can you tell our readers about yourself and your blog?

I am perfectly imperfect! That is the best, and maybe the only description needed for me!  I’m a middle-aged female that is a mother to 3 adult children and grandmother to 3 amazing little people. I’m also a sister to one older brother that is my hero in many ways. I’m a friend to a tribe of glorious women that I have known and cherished as my friends since childhood. I’ve tried marriage twice and after two divorces I’ve now remained mostly happy, only sometimes lonely for the past 20 years.

I was a nurse by profession for 20+ years before being forced to retire early due to health reasons 13 years ago. My blog is mostly mental health issues with some other health issues as well as just daily lifestyle topics.

Describe how did you first get into blogging?

I have always enjoyed reading and creative writing as well as having compassion for helping others. As a disabled nurse, forced into early retirement my passion to help others lead me to start blogging. I felt a desire to try and use my professional and personal health experiences through my blog to hopefully help others.  Maybe my “mess can be a message” to others that read it.

How do you motivate yourself to keep the blog up and running?

I would say my primary motivation is my faith in God and my desire to help others.  I honestly feel that throughout my life God has called me to help others.  First as a nurse, and now I see my blogging as a way to continue doing this even now that I’m unable to physically work due to my own health issues.  Also, my daughters and my friends help keep me motivated and give me ideas for topics on my blog.

What do you think is the best strategy that worked well for you to get more traffic to your blog?

Definitely Pinterest helps a LOT.  Also learning and using SEO.  Facebook groups and interacting with other bloggers also helps tremendously.  I also use Google Analytics.  I’m constantly researching and trying to learn more about the analytics.

In the future where do you hope your blog will take you?

I haven’t really thought about that. I guess to show up on the first page of results in a google search would be really awesome. Lol But I don’t really know that I have a goal of where I want my blog to take me.  My only actual goal is to possibly help someone or to brighten someone’s day.  I love getting comments on my posts, or emails from readers.  My ultimate reward from my blog is when I connect with a reader and exchange communication with my readers.  To know that something I wrote in one of my posts may have helped them or encouraged them somehow is all I really strive for with my blog.

Would you encourage other people to make their blog?

Well, yes if someone has ever considered wanting to blog, then certainly I would encourage them to just do it!  Plan it out and just get started!  Blogging can be very rewarding and even therapeutic in many ways.

A lot of people think that blogging is an easy way to make money online. Do you have some tips for those people who are interested in making money from the blog?

I’m not really the person to answer this question. LOL, I do some affiliate advertising but I’m not blogging to make money, and I’m definitely not making a lot of money right now. Of course, that’s ok with me because making money is not my reason for blogging.

What are the TOP THREE blogging tips you will share with our readers?

  1. Quality over Quantity!  Always have great quality content more so than just a bunch of half-good or mediocre posts.
  2. Be Consistent with your posting.  If it’s once a week or 3 times a week, try to stay with a schedule and be consistent.
  3. Interact on social media, I would say especially on Pinterest.
